My First Time At The Youth Convention

My First Time At The Youth Convention

Last week marks the end of my tenure as president and officer of  California State Baptist Convention (CSBC) Young People Auxiliary. I want to take some time to reflect on these past ten years as serving in leadership of the CSBC Young People Auxiliary Five years as a officer and five years as the president. First I would Like to thank the late Dr. E.V. Hill for starting the Children’s, Youth and Young Adult Convention over 35 years ago, without him I would of never held this office. Years ago My parents made me and my sister go on a trip with the church, one I really kinda didn’t want to go on and to be honest didn’t really know where I was going and didn’t ask LOL, just got in the church van at 3am and left. We went to Fresno California where there were youth from all over California, little did I know this convention would change the corse of my life, and one day ill would become president. The classes and speakers were awesome, and during the whole the convention I noticed this group of young people who was serving as leaders and over the next two years I felt a calling to try to become a leader. In 2005 I officially became a leader with the convention. I started serving in the CSBC when I was 15 years old, my first office held was Laymen’s Vice President under the leadership of Jeffery Wallace who was the auxiliary president. My first time ever flying on a plane was to attend my first auxiliary meeting in Berkeley CA and at the time I was scared of flying but I knew if the lord called me to do this I would be fine flying. I quickly moved up to president of the laymen’s, as president of laymen’s I was given the opportunity to speak all across the far-west region and at many churches in California. Then after  two years I was given the position of  3rd vice president and a year after that I was I given the position of vice president at large where I served for two years. Then in 2009 in Palm Spring California where I was living at the time I was elected president of the young people auxiliary, it was a really special moment to get elected in front of my church, family and friends. This past December I gave my last presidential address in fresno CA at the same hotel and ballroom where I first attended  this youth convention so many years ago and where I first got my calling to be a leader.

I have been blessed to served under three convention presidents Dr. Fred Cambell , Dr Claybon Lea Jr and my pastor Dr. Henry L. Perkins, My Purpose has always been to embower young people, equip The youth leaders and encourage the youth workers. This Children youth and young adult Convention has had a big part in my growth as a leader, man, and preacher. I am indebted to this convention, the past ten years I have been able to experience our young people thru out the state by attending youth annual days, sharing in preaching at various churches, and finally over the past ten years I have been edified by serving the presidents of this convention by assisting in hosting, handling the logistics of conferences and conventions. This Convention has opened so may doors for me. Without this convention I would of never met some of my mentor such as Dr. Claybon Lea Jr, Dr. Larry W. Ellis, Pastor Anthony L. Perkins, Dr. Henry L Perkins, and Pastor C.W. Parker. These GREAT men of God have helped to shape me to the man I am today, beside my father without these men I do not know where I would be today, I owe them A LOT they have poured and sowed into my life so much. I have had some of the best officers to work under me, they always did what was asked of them and went over and beyond the call of duty. My time in leadership has been great. Im excited to see where the Children, Youth and Young Adult Convention goes now. Congratulations  to my Vice President Kayla Matthews who became the first women president of the CSBC Young People Auxiliary. To hold this position has been a sacrifice, I’ve had to leave my family early on the holidays, miss birthdays and instead of going to see family and friends for my vacations I had to attend convention meetings or speak on behalf of the convention. Sacrifices are apart of leadership and I understand that sometimes I need to sacrifice somethings that matters to me to offer something that matter more to someone else and that is a relationship with Jesus Christ. To the California State Baptist Convention words can not express how grateful I am to this convention, I am indebted to tho convention. Thank you for having me as your president of the Young People Auxiliary.
